Fiber Instrument Sales (FIS) - Founded in 1985, FIS is leading the way in applying fiber optic technology to meet the emerging need for safety and security. FIS currently sells to over 90 countries worldwide. FIS produces the Fiber Fence, an infrared detection system using fiber optic cables as the wave guide.

FIS Products:

FIS Handheld Microscope 200x & 400x

The FIS Hand held Microscope is an ergonomically contoured, lightweight device. White LED lighting with 2 “3V” Lithium button cell batteries provides over 50 hrs. of continuous use, and eliminates bulb replacements. Available in 200X and 400X, both using coaxial lighting schemes. A universal connector adapter for 2.5mm ferrules is provided with other adapters available. Lightweight construction and foam hand grip provide unmatched comfort and reliability.

FIS Backplane Inspection Probe

The FIS Backplane Probe Microscope allows inspection of connector endfaces while installed in patch panels and inspection of connectors in other active and passive devices. Kit comes complete with handheld 4” diagonal LCD monitor, probe with standard 2.5mm tip, rechargeable battery pack, and cables in a hard-shell case.

FIS Video Microscope

The FIS Video Microscope is a natural choice for fast paced production environments, where ease of use and fast, accurate inspections are a necessity. Our brand-new microscope offers a high resolution look at the endface of most standard connectors, through your choice of either 200X or 400X magnifications. The sleek new design rests securely on your bench, while the included 4’ video cable gives you the flexibility to place the 9” monitor (also included) wherever it is convenient. The optics and internal components are designed to be rugged and reliable, with no user-serviceable parts. This ensures your FIS Video Microscope will offer you years of trouble-free service.

Newly Improved FIS Tool Kits

FIS introduces a new line of fiber optic tool kits. FIS has been the leader in the fiber optic industry for offering the best value on tool kits. This year FIS has expanded upon its tool kit line and upgraded several tools to show the commitment to providing quality kits. Technicians will appreciate the addition of new tools in the FIS Basic Tool Kit such as the fiber optic disposal unit, safety glasses, labeler and round cable cutter just to name a few. The Universal Epoxy Termination Tool Kit provides a technician materials to prep and connectorize standard fiber optic connectors such as ST, SC and FC. The Small Form Factor (SFF) Tool Kit allows termination of both LC and MU style connectors. Quick restoration requires mechanical splice kits and FIS offers kits specific to installing Fibrlok, Ultrasplice and Camsplice mechanical splices. For technicians searching for the ultimate tool kit, review our new Universal Multimode Test Set Kit and Contractors Kit including FIS test equipment for network performance testing. *Air Shipments exclude canned air & Alcohol

Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier – (EDFA)

The Fiber Instrument Sales Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) is a user friendly, fully functional Optical Fiber Amplifier. The unit is equipped with dual power meters, monitoring signal input power and total optical output power. The unit also features redundant power supplies, useful in critical applications where failure of the unit results in failure of a system. The power supplies are completely self-switching upon loss of power to the main power input. A keyed ON/OFF switch prevents tampering, and an audible alarm ENABLE/DISABLE switch can alert a system administrator of losses of input signals or failure of the unit. The EDFA is shipped as a 2 rack-space high, 1/2 width benchtop unit with handles for carrying, but can be converted to a 19” rackmount with supplied panel blank and hardware. Standard optical interfaces are SC/APC connectors, with a shutter on the output to prevent accidental exposure to the eyes. (FC/APC connectors are available upon request for the input ports.) FIS EDFA’s are available in a gain-flattened or non gain-flattened configuration, depending on application.

FIS Mini OTDR

The FIS Mini-OTDR is the first low cost, fully functional OTDR available on the market. This unit is fast and simple to operate. The Mini-OTDR is perfect for field installation or maintenance of existing networks. Available in a standard version with a distance range of 4Km to 64Km and LAN version with a distance range of 1Km to 16Km to view those short fiber lengths. Both versions are available in a ruggedized housing or desktop housing. The unit will display a trace within a second of pressing the Scan Button. You can use the RS232 port to download your traces to your desktop or Laptop computer. You may also use the RS232 to print to a serial printer. This immediate response is ideal for monitoring and repairing your fiber optic network.

Fiber Optic Cameras

These revolutionary vandal resistant fiber optic cameras can transmit up to 8 kilometers (26,000 feet) without amplification, compared to only about 1,500 feet with a conventional camera using video coaxial cable. Fiber optic cameras achieve these great distances by transmitting video signals as photons (light) instead of electrons. Laser-driven type transmitters substantially extend the transmission distance up to 20 kilometers. The cameras are available in multimode and singlemode versions. These cameras provide all the benefits of fiber optic technology, including immunity to electromagnetic interference, small size and light weight.

E2000 PATCHCORDS & MATING SLEEVES

FIS offers Singlemode E2000 3.0mm cable assemblies. The E2000 comes with an integrated shutter system to protect the user from high power laser emissions, and protects the connector from contamination. Call For other configurations.

ACC Adjustable Armored Cable Cutter

Turning the crank handle produces a clean cut through the armor casing which is then twisted for easy removal. Cable is easily loaded from the side of the tool.

 Fiber Fence

The Fiber Fence™ Security System developed by FIS, features an infrared detection system using fiber optic cable as the waveguide. The system integrates a length of weather-protected fiber optic cable along a complete fencing perimeter. Using existing OTDR technology, the fiber length is continuously measured, recognizing any tension or breaks in the fiber. A break in the fiber optic cable immediately signals an alarm and displays the exact location of the break
